It moves freely (some resistance to movement, but not much) to the right and also to the left if the carriage release lever is held down. I checked the general cleaning/repair guide on the sidebar, which said to check the band and the spring. The band is intact, however, I can not seem to find a spring. Maybe I'm missing something and that's not the issue, so I decided to come here and ask you guys, since it's my first time and I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

The spring lives inside the barrel that the band wraps around, and it may be that the barrel needs winding. #Lc smith and corona typewriter 8 10 plus#.
